New Adventures Will Make You Experience Life To The Fullest

A Sunday Short

How many times do you feel as though you are stuck in a rut?  Every day is a repeat of the day before, and every season brings the same routine as it did last year, and the year before that.  Life has a lot to offer, and we need to break free of this cycle to learn how new adventures will make us experience life to the fullest!

Experience Life

  • Face your fear of trying new things.  Yes, it’s very easy to stay in our comfort zone at times.  Working our way out of that zone, however, allows personal growth and opens the door for new experiences.  It is essential in learning to experience life to its fullest!
  • Let go of assumptions and keep an open mind.  Things are not always what they seem to be, and you won’t know until you experience it for yourself.
  • Do something terrifying.  I am not suggesting you jump out of an airplane or anything crazy like that.  For some people, speaking in front of a group of people can be just as scary.  Maybe you want to join a book club, but are afraid that you won’t know anyone, or that your opinion of the book won’t be well received.  Overcome the fear.  It’s empowering.

I recently saw this quote and posted it in the front of my journal so I see it often:

Do one thing every day that scares you.

Eleanor Roosevelt

For me, this is another challenge.  Things that scare me personally may be laughable to some.  Things like standing up for myself give me anxiety like you wouldn’t believe!  I hate confrontation.  I always have.  Usually, I walk away from it (or run).  I realize now that confronting a problem with a person does not mean an altercation will occur.  Sometimes it does happen.  But taking a few minutes now to work out a problem before it festers into something worse saves a lot of aggravation later and takes away any relationship strain caused by something avoidable.

Find Yourself Through New Adventures

Have you ever flipped through a magazine and seen advertisements for outdoor activities, such as white water rafting, that you would like to try, but think “Oh, I could never do that!”  Well, maybe you can’t start out being a pro at it, but you could certainly do it on a smaller scale.  I know I would like to try that someday even though I would be on the equivalent to the bunny slope at a ski resort, but who cares?  It looks like such fun!

We are never too old to try new things!

  • Are you a reader? Try out a new genre of books.  Maybe you are stuck in a reading rut.  Try something you haven’t read before.  Joining a book club is a sure-fire way to encourage that!
  • Like music?  Pick up the musical instrument you once played.  Whether it be the piano or the drums, reconnecting with your musical-self has many benefits.  Already play an instrument?  Try something new.  YouTube is a great resource for lessons.  You can also consider joining a local band or choir (if singing is your thing).
  • Enjoy physical activity?  Join a dance or exercise class.  If you have an interest in it, do it.
  • Love the outdoors?  Hiking, biking, camping, fishing, and bird watching are adventures you may enjoy.
  • Do you like art?  Sign up for a painting class.
  • How about crafting and creating?  Investigate classes offered in your area; there are many where I live.
  • Is sewing your passion?  Take part in a quilting bee.
  • Love the water?  Rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard and take a lesson.  If you don’t already know how to swim, take swimming lessons.
  • Do you love to cook?  Well, even if you only cook because you need to eat, taking part in a group or a class to give you more ideas can be helpful (and fun).
  • Going on vacation?  Try parasailing, zip-lining, or another popular activity that interests you.  Experience the exhilarating!

Take A Course

Learning something new is an amazing way to stay young and broaden your horizons.  Many community colleges offer inexpensive courses as a “lifelong learning” initiative.  While you do not earn college credits for these instructionals, the classes are designed to educate on the basics of a specific topic such as:

Learning/Schooling to experience life
  • Photography
  • Computer Skills
  • Cooking
  • Baking and Cake Decorating
  • Writing a Business Plan
  • Leadership
  • Personal Finance
  • Writing
  • Social Media

The benefits of continuing your education are endless. Education not only looks great on your resume, but it also does wonders for your self-esteem and fosters personal growth.

Sure Things About New Experiences

  • If you try a new adventure and hate it, then you never have to do it again.
  • If you try it and love it, then you have a new hobby!
  • Worried you won’t be good at it?  Remember, you won’t know if you don’t try.
  • Every new experience is an opportunity to meet new people with similar interests and make new friends.
  • More than likely, you will have fun.  Even if you don’t care for the activity you choose like you thought you would, you will most likely enjoy the experience and have a few laughs.

Surround yourself with people who inspire you.

Sometimes, allowing ourselves to experience life in a new way opens the door to many exciting things.  You never know what can happen unless you try.  At least you can defeat the agony of boredom and get out of the rut!  Let me know what you decide to try and how it goes for you!

Until Next Time,
