A Sunday Short
For as much as I LOVE Summer, I am always somewhat relieved at the return of Autumn. I don’t know about you, but I am someone who depends on having a
Back To Reality
The return of another school year and football season (high school or college) both bring a predictable schedule back to our lives year after year. We have a plan; something to do every day. Suddenly the lazy days of summer are gone, and the reality of following a daily schedule is back once again.
As the weather moderates from hot and humid to more comfortable, pleasant temperatures, it allows us to open the windows and enjoy the crisp, nighttime air while freshening our home with the scents of autumn.
Because we are losing daylight at an alarming rate, spending those extra hours indoors in the evening gives us more time to establish a nightly routine, including an earlier bedtime.
Routines – things we can count on in daily life – bring us comfort. The sun rises and sets, the tide drifts in and out, the moon and stars shine at night. These absolutes ground us and provide structure and dependability to our everyday lives.
One of the best things about a returning routine is getting my house back to some semblance of order. Everything will be cleaned, as it is in the spring. I have some painting projects slated for fall this year and cannot wait to get started!
Life Changes And A New Routine
I am going to be totally honest with you – if you would see my house in its current state, you would laugh out loud at the irony of me writing a blog about organizing anything. But what I have learned in life thus far is to choose my battles.
Working a full-time job, editing and writing for a local magazine (not to mention this blog), and being an involved parent in our youngest’s activities, I don’t have a lot of spare time! I wouldn’t trade any of it, but some days I get a little tired and frustrated. I am grateful, however, that 2018 has presented me with so many new opportunities!
As I assess my ever-growing list of things that need to be done inside and outside the house, I really cannot help but smile. You see, not too long ago, my husband was at home every day taking care of all of the housework. He had been laid off; the company he worked for was closing its doors. What came of that “terrible” situation for him was a better opportunity. So part of me is very thankful that the house is in shambles. To be fair, we do keep it clean even with our busy lifestyle. Could it be cleaner? Sure! Are we going to be the next family on Hoarders? No.
I have also changed jobs, and the move has been life-changing! While I haven’t been home as much, I am appreciative of the new path I am traveling in my life. As time goes by, things are settling down a bit, allowing me to get back to a new daily routine! I can clean the house tommorrow…or the next day.
Until Next Time,
April

My friend and very busy entrepreneur and I were just talking about this yesterday. I was saying how frustrated I am about the mess at home. Things have also changed a lot for me since the beginning of summer, many, many changes mostly great ones. My friend also said she has the same issue, her words of advice:”Something’s got to give”. It’s true, I’m not enjoying things because I’m always worried about keeping up at home. I appreciate your blog and reminding me to stop, enjoy and appreciate.
Thanks, Karen! Many of us have the same struggles! There just isn’t enough time in the day. I am trying to live in the present and enjoy what’s happening now. I am glad to hear about great changes in your life. If the house bothers you that much, hire someone to clean it. I have toyed around with the idea too in the last two months.
